The following story might help shift your mindset about helping others.
When I was in college, I didn’t know how selfish I was. Most of us don’t.
One night I went out to dinner with friends and we had a lot of leftovers. I didn’t want to waste it so I took it to go, but we were going to a party right after so I had to throw it away.
On the way to the trash can, I saw a homeless lady sleeping on a bench. I decided to give it to her instead.
I didn’t want to wake her up so I just placed it next to her.
I guess I must’ve been loud because she woke up and asked “what do you want?” I told her I left her some leftover in case she was hungry.
For some reason I thought she was gonna get angry… maybe offended that I was giving her my “leftovers.”
Instead she said “thank you soooo much” then she started eating it right in front of me! She said “I didn’t eat all day…”
I started to tear up.
Here I was thinking that she’s not gonna want someone’s leftover, but I actually made her day. I felt terrible, so gave her a $20 bill and had a nice chat with her.
This event completely changed my attitude on happiness.
Over the next few months I started noticing that I’m the happiest when I’m helping others.
Even during a Christmas gift exchange, I was more excited about giving more than receiving. I was excited to see their face when they open the gift.
I’m sure you’ve also experienced similar situations.
Treat your business and social media with the same attitude. Serve others because it makes YOU happy, not because you want something in return.
I guarantee that’ll bring you success.
