How do you know if they really believe in the myth?

Short answerTo know if they really believe in the myth, ask if it's conscious or subconscious. A lot of people say one thing out loud but do the opposite in real life.

Two Questions to Ask

  • First ask: do they really believe this myth, or does everyone already know it's wrong?
  • Then ask: is it conscious or subconscious? They might say they don't care about money but secretly chase it.

Watch What They Do

  • If their actions don't match what they say, that's a sign the belief is real but hidden.
  • If the myth sounds like something everybody already knows, it probably won't land.

In Sun's words

A lot of people state the myth and stop there. That's not enough. You have to give me an example I can actually understand that shows why the myth is wrong. Without the example, I might still believe the myth. The example is what makes it real.

Every carousel I've ever made is based on a lesson I learned personally. I don't randomly hunt for myths to debunk. I only debunk the ones I used to believe in. The reason is simple. Unless you've experienced something yourself, it's going to be hard to find and explain it. When it's real, you can say: I followed this myth, I believed it, and then this thing happened and I realized it was wrong. That's what makes it land. If you try to force it, it feels fake. People will think: nobody believes that. Nobody thinks that's a myth. That's exactly how it falls apart. So ask yourself: what's something you believed your whole life because everyone told you it was true, but turned out to be false? That's your myth. Start there.
