What's Sun's life philosophy?

Short answerSun says he's probably the most nihilistic person you'll meet, but meaning comes from the people you love and what you do for them.

Where meaning comes from

  • A meaningful life isn't a happy life, it has ups and downs, and you have to break through your fears.
  • Success means how authentically and unapologetically you can be yourself, not money or validation.
  • You can't skip the hard parts; the only thing you control is who you are when you win and when you lose.

How he thinks about time

  • He picked the date he'll die in high school, not as a plan, but as a way to work backwards and do things in the right phase of life.
  • In your story, make yourself the villain, not the victim.

In Sun's words

I never really cared about money. But I did care about validation. I cared about getting respect. I cared about people not disrespecting me. I cared about people thinking I was smart. And then I realized that chasing those things is no different than chasing money. It's still performing. It's still a mask. Now my definition of success is how authentically can you be yourself. How unapologetically can you show up. That's how I measure it. Because if you have to walk on glass every day, careful not to say the wrong thing, you haven't succeeded — no matter how much money you make.
I used to care about validation more than money — and that taught me my real definition of success▶ Watch Sun explain this
