What's the 1-second test for a carousel?
Short answerThe 1-second test means spending just one second on each slide as you swipe through a carousel. If you can get through the whole thing in 10 seconds, it passes.
How the test works
- Swipe through your carousel and spend one second per slide.
- A 10-slide carousel should take 10 seconds total to get through.
- If a slide takes longer than one second to read, the copy is too long.
Why Sun does it
- Sun runs the test three or four times on his own carousels before posting.
- Short carousels are what go viral; longer ones attract your audience but won't spread.
- It forces you to shorten your message, and that's a great exercise on its own.
Try itOpen a carousel you drafted in Story Bank and swipe each slide, counting one second per slide. Flag any slide you can't read in time.
