What is a Myth Sandwich?

Short answerThe Myth Sandwich is a 3-part structure: start with a common belief (the myth), give a real example that contradicts it, then land the truth. The truth is never just the opposite of the myth. It's more nuanced than that.

The 3 Parts

  • Start with the myth: something many people believe.
  • Then give a contradicting example: a real story that makes people say 'oh, yeah, right'.
  • End with the truth: not the opposite of the myth, but the more real, contextual version.

Why It Works

  • The myth isn't totally wrong, which is what makes it believable to your audience.
  • When people agree with the example, they can't argue with the truth you lead them to.
  • The hard part is finding the right myth, right example, and right truth.
