How do I find the 2 sides of my story?
Short answerThe 2 sides are the myth and the truth: what your audience believes that isn't the whole picture, and what you now know is real.
The Core Question
- Ask yourself: what are the 2 sides of this story?
- Once you know both sides, you know the myth and the truth.
- Most people only see one side and think that's the whole truth.
How to Find Them
- Start with your personal story, then ask: what did you used to believe (the myth)?
- Then ask: what is the real truth you learned?
- You also have to flip it and see the story from the other side, even when it makes you the villain.
In Sun's words
A lot of people have their side of the story down. They know their background, their journey, their experience. But the problem is — how does that relate to the client? Like, okay, great story. How's that going to help me? The story only works when it's built around one specific thing your client struggles with. Not a general theme. A specific thing. And the more specific you make it, the more they're going to say, "Holy sh*t, that's exactly what I'm going through." So figure out the one underlying struggle your best clients share. Then build the whole story around that — your client's problem first, then your proof, then your solution. That's the skeleton. How specific you make it is the juicy part.
