Should you talk politics in your content?

The short answer is no.

Your personal brand reflects your personality, your core values, and your life philosophy.

And your politics reflect the same things.

So why not talk about politics?

Here are 3 reasons:

1. You don’t know shit

You ever work somewhere for years?

You know all the problems.

You know why things are broken.

You’ve tried all the solutions, and most of them didn’t work.

Then the new guy shows up on day 3 and says:

“You know what you guys should do?”

He thinks you’re all dumb and he’s here to fix everything.

That’s basically anyone talking about politics online.

And yes, that includes you.

You know how I know?

Because if I worked full-time researching ONE topic, I still wouldn’t have all the answers.

And somehow people think they’ve figured out immigration, healthcare, foreign policy, taxes, and education while also working full time in their career?

Come on.

2. They don’t know shit

Let’s pretend you’re the rare one who actually knows your stuff.

It still doesn’t matter.

Because your audience doesn’t.

In fact, they don’t even know that they don’t know.

And the worst part?

They don’t want to know because they’ve already made up their minds.

It’s basically like trying to wake up someone who’s pretending to be asleep.

It’s pointless.

Socrates thought democracy wouldn’t work because most people are dumb.

I kinda agree with him.

3. It does more damage than good

I remember the ’90s when politics was boring.

Only boring people talked about politics.

Now it’s entertainment.

It’s pop culture.

So EVERYONE has an opinion.

And that does more damage than good because, like Socrates said, most of them are dumb.

So let’s make politics boring again.

So how do you talk politics without talking politics

Talk about your core values.

Talk about your life philosophy.

Talk about your personality.

Don’t talk about communism vs. capitalism.

Talk about your thoughts on collaboration vs. competition.

Don’t talk about progressive vs. conservative.

Talk about your thoughts on innovation vs. tradition.

Don’t talk about Democrats vs. Republicans.

Talk about your thoughts on creativity vs. order.

Those conversations are way more interesting.

And honestly?

That tells me more about you than knowing who you voted for.
