Today I’m gonna make a case for why posting content will help you…

EVEN IF NOBODY SEES IT!

I believe sharing your stories publicly is like free therapy.

Here are 3 reasons why 👇

1. It gives you back your power

I used to never share anything, with anyone.

Then one day, I went to a bootcamp where they do yoga, meditation, and a lot of “sharing” but I already knew I wasn’t gonna be sharing.

On day 4, a simple question was asked:
”what are your complaints?”

Everyone was sharing just one sentence each, so I thought–why not?
I yelled out “My complaint is that my employees aren’t helpful.”

After everyone shared, we had a 90 min yoga session.
At the end I just laid there on the mat and started to cry.

On the next sharing session, I felt like everyone wanted me to share…
I guess because they just saw me cry like a baby 😅

I mustered up the courage and said this:

I lied before when I said my employees aren’t helpful.
They’re actually trying to help me. It’s me who won’t let them.
When they do something wrong, I just say “I’ll just do it myself” then complain that I have to do everything around here.

What’s even more fucked up is that I do it to make myself feel important.

Laying on that yoga mat–being outside of my head, and too exhausted to even bullshit my own ego–I realized something.

It’s what made me cry.

I’m scared my employees won’t need my help.
I’m secretly afraid of not being needed…
not just at work, but in life.

As soon as said it, I felt a sudden sense of relief.

Everyone came up to me and thanked me for sharing because they were feeling the same in their own business or even as a parent.

Once you share your story, it no longer holds power over you.

It actually gives you back your power.

2. It gives you clarity

Have you ever hit that “post” button, then immediately want to change something? It happens to me with almost every post.

I say to myself:

  • I should’ve used a different image
  • I should’ve used this word instead
  • I should’ve added more context

Sometimes it even makes me rethink the whole thing.
Makes me wonder if I even 100% agree with my own opinion.

Wouldn’t it be nice if I saw all of this BEFORE posting?
It never happens though.

Your brain doesn’t work the same when things are too safe.
It’s almost like you’re blind certain truths until they’re out there in public.

With all that risk comes clarity.

3. It trains your ego

My ego is pretty fragile.

I remember reading comments like:

  • who the fuck are you?
  • you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about

And I’d just go numb.
It triggered me so much I couldn’t concentrate for hours.

I’d start overthinking…
worried my followers would see it and I’d lose all credibility.

Sometimes I’d even go back and forth in long debates,
because some 20 year old newbie thinks they’re smarter than me.

Over the years, I’ve had hundreds (maybe thousands) of people disagreeing, arguing, and leaving hateful comments.

Funny thing is, it made me very aware of my triggers and what past traumas they came from.
